Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to the questions we hear most about how Sudokuwu's puzzles, difficulty, and saving work. Looking for move-by-move rules instead? See How to Play.

Is Sudokuwu free to play?

Yes. Every puzzle, every mode, and every difficulty is free, with no account, sign-up, or payment required. The site is supported by standard display advertising.

Do I need to create an account?

No. There's no login system at all — just open the site and play. Your theme and timer-visibility preferences are remembered on your own device (see the Privacy Policy), but no personal profile or puzzle history is stored anywhere.

What are the creature symbols?

They're a set of nine cute-art characters that replace the usual digits 1-9 across all three games, each with its own pastel color so it's recognizable by shape and by color. Read more about them on the About page.

How is puzzle difficulty decided?

Each game offers three difficulty levels — Easy, Medium, and Hard. Difficulty is controlled by the puzzle generator itself: harder puzzles start with fewer givens (Sudoku), larger and denser grids (Queens, Shape Link), and require deeper chains of logical deduction to solve uniquely, rather than any artificial time pressure or scoring penalty. You can switch difficulty at any time from the toolbar above the board.

What's the difference between the daily puzzle and a practice puzzle?

The daily puzzle is one specific puzzle per game mode and difficulty that's the same for every player on a given day — solve it and you can share your time. A practice puzzle is freshly generated just for you, as many times as you like, and doesn't affect any daily result. Tap "New practice puzzle" any time you want a fresh one, or "Restart daily puzzle" to clear your progress on today's daily and start it over.

What if I miss a day — can I go back and play an old daily puzzle?

Not currently — only the current day's daily puzzle is available for each mode and difficulty. If you load the site after a new day's puzzle has been published, you'll see the new one.

Does my progress save if I close the tab or switch devices?

Progress on the currently loaded puzzle is kept in memory for your browsing session and is not synced to an account, so it won't follow you to a different device or browser. Closing and reopening the same tab or a fresh visit will generally start you back on the current daily puzzle.

Does Sudokuwu work on phones and tablets?

Yes — every board is built to scale down to fit a phone screen without any horizontal scrolling, and the input methods (the Sudoku rotary dial, tap-to-select in Queens, drag-to-connect in Shape Link) are all designed touch-first.

Does the site track me or show ads?

Sudokuwu shows standard display ads to support hosting costs, which may involve third-party cookies from our ad provider. There's no account system and no personal data collection beyond that — see the Privacy Policy for the full picture.
